Dryad

23rd May 2019 By Robin Boag

I’ve probably – no I have – taken more photographs of one tree than any other – the Silver Birch. I happen to live in a part of the world where you quickly come across this species, whichever direction you head off in. But I reckon I’d still seek them out wherever I was and at any time of the year. I also reckon it’ll take a fair few more shots before I find a way in to capturing something of their grace.

The Ancient Greeks assigned particular wood nymphs (Dryads) as faithful and fierce protectors to tree species such as oak, ash, apple and laurel but I haven’t tracked down ones for the birch…..yet.
