Half-Light

18th September 2015 By Robin Boag

Robert Adams, one of the photographic ‘parents’ I cite in the website, understands light better than most. His portfolio and book ‘Sea Stories’ contain images of the Oregon coast that shine.

While I’m learning how the choice of paper stock and printing method can influence and enhance the look and feel of an image, the luminosity of his photographs – the sky, sea – the dunes and beaches – comes from somewhere else.

I’m lucky to live so near to beaches and dunes of my own and be witness to the changes in light at both ends of the day with their litmus-paper skies. I often keep this Robert Adams quote in my head:

“There is still time – in the lee, in the quiet, in the extraordinary light”
