One thing I’ve learned from living at this latitude – the weather makes the sky.
It served me well when I attended a workshop on the West Coast last November. November means a later sunrise and I decided to walk the four miles to the studio each morning. Setting off in the dark with the wind and birds for company, I looked behind me more than I looked ahead – waiting for the first rents of light in the sky.
So, when given the first task – to use images taken during this walk as the basis for a small concertina book – I knew where to look.
I’ve got this thing about books as objects to be displayed – on a shelf, table or window-sill; as is this first attempt in the room here.
My time in Japan has a lot to do with this. A book is a gift.
